Dr. Ray Mentzer
Chemical Engineering Dept - Lecturer, Texas A&M University

Dr. Mentzer has been a Sr. Lecturer in the Chemical Engineering Department of Texas A&M University for the past ~7 years, following a 28+ year career with ExxonMobil. He teaches the senior level ‘Chemical Process Safety’ and ‘Oil & Gas Processing’ courses, as well as the multi-disciplinary ‘Industrial Safety & Health Management.’ He is engaged in a wide variety of process safety research activities overseeing ten graduate students as a member of the Mary Kay O’Connor Process Safety Center. The research includes, process safety management & metrics, risk assessment, safety culture & resilience, downhole drilling safety, and liquefied natural gas (LNG) fire-related studies. Ray has been actively engaged on committees with a variety of industry associations, such as API, OGP, UKOOA and the Center for LNG.

Dr. Mentzer received his BS in Chemical Engineering from the University of Illinois, and MS and PhD in Chemical Engineering from Purdue. Prior to joining A&M, Ray had over a dozen assignments with ExxonMobil in Houston / New Orleans / London in a variety of areas, including oil & gas facility design and operation; research; financial management; safety, health & environment; and, public affairs. His last position was as a global Safety, Health, Environment and Security manager.

Craig V. Meier
President and CEO, Sunland Construction

President and CEO for Sunland Construction, Inc., where he manages the overall Company for all of Sunland Construction, Inc. and Affiliates business lines including 14 division offices in a 41 state area. He joined Sunland in 1999 as their Vice President, was promoted in 2010 to Sunland’s President and in 2012 he assumed the duties of his current position of President and CEO. Sunland Construction has been in business for over 40 years and has grown into one of the largest merit shop contractors employing an average of 2,200 people with a peak work force of over 3,000 employees. He is the past Chairmen of the Interstate Natural Gas Association of America Foundation (INGAA Foundation) in 2013 and 2014. He was employed for twelve (12) years with Centerpoint Energy / Enable, serving in various positions, which included Region Engineer, Construction Manager, Manager of Construction/Project Management and Director of Engineering & Construction where he oversaw all facets of engineering and construction for a 10,000 mile transmission pipeline system in a seven (7) state area.

Kelvin Roth
Director, Corporate Environmental Health & Safety, CF Industries

Kelvin E. Roth is the Director of EHS for CF Industries, the world’s largest nitrogen fertilizer company. Through our existing manufacturing and distribution assets, CF Industries safely and reliably produces fertilizers that help farmers grow enough food to sustain more than 200 million people annually. Kelvin possesses more than 25 years of experience in the safety and environmental management field, as well as expertise in the implementation of management systems, auditing and compliance services, risk management, product stewardship, sustainability and community relations. He has extensive experience in successfully developing and leading “best in class” EHS organizations and cultures in a variety of industries, ranging from mining to chemicals to manufacturing.

He served as President of NAEM (National Association of Environmental Managers) from 2009-2012 where he helped position the organization to meet the challenges of the future. He has also been active in championing employee and product environmental and safety issues through his work with many US and international trade associations. He currently serves as an industry representative on the Fertilizer Safety and Health Partners (FSHP) Alliance.

Kelvin has a Master of Science degree in environmental engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology and a Bachelor of Science degree in medical technology from Andrews University. He is also known for his love of food, wine, travel and the finer things in life. 

Dennis Leonard
Safety Director, Kiewit Mining Group

As Safety Director, Dennis Leonard is responsible for Kiewit Mining Group’s overall safety program and performance. Over the past 10 years, Kiewit has performed more than 50 mining contracts totaling more than $1.8 billion in revenue. 

Dennis began his career with Kiewit in 1995.  During his time at the company, he has served as a safety engineer, safety manager, and district safety manager, before moving into his current Kiewit safety leadership role in 2012. Dennis has spent over 18 years in the construction side of Kiewit and the past 4 years in his current position.  Dennis has authored various safety articles for the International Board of Environmental Health and Safety, Kie-Ways Magazine and the Associated General Contractors of Arizona. His works have included “The Value of Safety,” Stretching in the Workplace” and “Managing an OSHA Inspection – Before, During and After.”

As a Board Accredited Registered Safety Professional, Dennis is a twofold recipient of the “Safety Professional of the Year Award” presented by the Associated General Contractors. He has provided guidance and training to many safety professionals by serving on the Board of Governors with the International Board of Environmental Health and Safety. He is currently based out of Northern California.

Dr. Matthew Berkheiser
Executive Director Environmental Health & Safety, MD Anderson Cancer Center

Dr. Matthew Berkheiser is the Executive Director of the Environmental Health and Safety department at MD Anderson Cancer Center.  Dr. Berkheiser holds a bachelors degree in Environmental Science from Sam Houston State University, a masters in Environmental Management from the University of Houston at Clear Lake and a doctorate in Occupational & Environmental Health from the University of Texas School of Public Health. Dr. Berkheiser is a CIH and CSP. He has over 20 years of experience in the environmental health and safety field. Dr. Berkheiser has worked for both the state of Texas and federal government in varying capacities. His career started in December 1993, when he was employed by MD Anderson Cancer Center as a Safety Technician. He was employed as an industrial hygienist with Kelsey-Seybold’s Occupational Health Program at NASA-Johnson Space Center from 1995 through 1999. Dr. Berkheiser also served in the Biology/Environmental Sciences Department at Sam Houston State University. While serving as an instructor for the undergraduate Environmental Science courses, he also served as the Industrial Hygiene Manager for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. Dr. Berkheiser returned to MD Anderson in 2003. His primary customers and collaborators at MD Anderson include the Facilities staff, Employee Health & Well-Being, Nursing and Infection Control.  He spends a majority of his time mentoring his staff on developing their technical and leadership skills. His most recent accomplishment was becoming a CoreClarity, Inc. facilitator that helps attendees explore their StrengthsFinder talents.

Mark Eitzman
Global Safety Market Development Manager, Rockwell Automation

Mark Eitzman is the Global Safety Market Development Manager with global responsibility for the growth of the Rockwell Automation Safety portfolio and business.

In his combined 30-year career at Rockwell Automation and an Allen-Bradley Distributor, Mark has held a variety of positions with increasing responsibility in sales, marketing, and product management. Prior to his current position, Mark was a Regional Marketing Leader in the eastern region of the US for Rockwell Automation.  There he supported the sales offices and components businesses, including safety components for automation solutions throughout the region.

Mark earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Management from Malone College in Canton, Ohio and a Certificate of Industrial Distribution Management from Texas A&M University.

Keith Harned
Corporate Health and Safety Director, Louisiana Pacific Corporation

Over twenty-five years of experience in occupational safety, health, and environmental affairs including work in the construction, chemical, wood products, and textile industries.  Keith has worked for LP Building Products since 2005 in his current position providing health and safety leadership for twenty-four manufacturing locations in the US, Canada, Chile, and Brazil.  Prior to joining LP, Keith worked for DuPont for sixteen years serving in various functions including Contractor Safety Manager, Safety Coordinator, Safety and Health Superintendent and Global S.H.E. Manager for DuPont in the Polyester business covering seven different manufacturing locations.

Dan Bravard

Dan Bravard is the Associate Vice President of Risk Management and Safety at Memorial Hermann Health System in Houston, Texas.  Mr. Bravard holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Indiana State University, a masters in Occupational Health and Safety from the University of Central Missouri. He has over 25 years of domestic and international experience in risk management and safety. Dan’s experience extends over a wide variety of industries including, healthcare, transportation, oil and gas, service and manufacturing. Dan’s business passion centers around strategic enterprise risk management, safety and operational excellence, focused on building a high reliability work environment.

Scott Steinford

Scott has built a career of leading, learning and mentoring. Through immersion in many aspects of the supplement and pharmaceutical industry Scott has worked to redefine and improve business practices within the healthcare industry with an emphasis on transparency.

His experience ranges from entry level to CEO and positions include organizations representing ingredient supplier, ingredient manufacturer, retail brand, private equity, M&A due diligence expert and trade organizations.

Clive has forty years of experience working for Owner Operators and Engineering Procurement Contractors in the Petrochemical sector fulfilling roles that included FEED, engineering, maintenance, operations and project management. His passion is helping EPCs and Owner Operators with information and data management for new and existing assets involving Operational Excellence and Process Safety. Clive has a B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering and is a registered European and Chartered Engineer and a Fellow of the Institute Of Measurement and Control.

Kirk Bagnal
Director of Global Environment, Health, and Safety, Domtar Personal Care

Kirk serves as the Global Director – Environment, Health, & Safety for Domtar’s Personal Care Division. He has been in this role for the past two years. Previously, he served in many operational positions including Plant Manager of the Greenville, NC facility.  Prior to joining Domtar, Kirk worked for Covidien (Tyco Healthcare) in varying roles including Quality, Safety, Operations Management, and Continuous Improvement. Before that, he served for 7 years in the U.S. Army as an Armor Officer after graduating from Furman University.

Hutton Andrew

Hutton Andrew is a health, safety, and environmental professional in the oil and gas sector. He specializes in the development of behavior based safety programs and management systems. He began his career as a roughneck in the west Texas oilfield and uses his experience to develop realistic, employee focused safety programs. Hutton is currently employed with Southwestern Energy Company and he holds a bachelor’s degree in Health Science from the University of Central Arkansas.
