Kevin Krausert
President, Beaver Drilling

Kevin Krausert is the President of Beaver Drilling Ltd., Canada’s largest and oldest privately owned drilling company. Having worked for Beaver Drilling for 15 years, his notable accomplishments include the construction, marketing and operation of some of Canada’s first fully computerized drilling rigs, entry into the Canadian Arctic drilling market and the successful roll-out and negotiation of the Rig Technician Trade between the drilling industry and Alberta Apprenticeship creating the world’s first formal trade for drilling rig workers.

Kevin started his career at the bottom of the energy industry as a floorhand on Beaver Rig 11. Over 4 years in the field, he advanced through the ranks to become a motorhand and then a derrickhand. By working side-by-side Beaver’s brightest field personnel, Kevin learned first hand the rigors and values of rig life before being promoted into the Edmonton and Calgary offices.

Mr. Krausert recently completed his Global Energy Executive MBA as Valedictorian at the Haskayne School of Business. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from McGill University in Neurobiology. He is currently serving on the Board of Directors of both the Canadian Association of Oilwell Drilling Contractors (CAODC) and Beaver Drilling Ltd.

Charles Iggulden
President, Infinity Energy

Charles Iggulden, MBA, is the President and CEO of Infinity Energy.  He brings over twenty-five years of senior global leadership experience in construction and the resource sector, specifically oil and gas and power industries.  He is a solutions based senior manager with extensive experience planning, implementing, and directing enterprise-wide strategic vision aimed at increasing revenue and attaining operational excellence. Exceptional communicator skilled in global networking, and cultivating long-lasting relationships with employees, senior executives, clients, and community members. Charles is fiscally disciplined with proven record managing multi-million-dollar budgets across various business functions. In addition, he is an analytical strategist continually focused on identifying complex business challenges, and aligning appropriate solutions. 

Charles is an active community supporter and is the recipient of many awards and acknowledgements.  These include NEBC Aboriginal Healing Conference Award of Recognition, 2004, Keyano College Aboriginal Business Award of Recognition, 2004, Government of Canada, Aboriginal Work Place Initiative Award of Recognition, 2001, Alberta Chamber of Commerce: Aboriginal Best Practices Distinction Award, 2001, Interprovincial Association on Native Employment, and Best practices Aboriginal Employment 2000.  His volunteer community involvement involves leadership on various community boards and service clubs.

Ian Brown
Sr. Mgr. Integrated Production Solutions, Baker Hughes

Ian Brown is currently a Senior Manager at Baker Hughes where he responsible for integrated production solutions that combine oilfield tools, processes, hardware and software to advance Baker Hughes digital oilfield capabilities and associated commercial products.

Ian has 15 years’ experience in the upstream energy sector pioneering intelligent production systems for major NOC’s and IOC’s around the globe. Prior to Baker Hughes Ian held various product management and software development positions at Halliburton managing the development of real-time analytics and digital oilfield software.

Ian holds an MBA in oil and gas management and a BS in computer science from the Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen, Scotland

Dr. Steve Liang
Associate Professor, University of Calgary

Steve Liang is a researcher, teacher and entrepreneur. Steve is currently an associate professor at the University of Calgary in Canada. From 2011~2014, Steve held the AITF-Microsoft Industry Research Chair on the Open Sensor Web. Steve is also the founder and CEO of SensorUp (http://www.sensorup.com).

Steve’s goal is to disrupt the silos of the Internet of Things and to empower anyone to build interoperable connected applications effortlessly. Steve’s major contribution to this emerging field has been the creation of international open standards that serve to disrupt silos and enable an interoperable and truly open IoT. For example, Steve is currently the Standard Working Group Chair of the Open Geospatial Consortium SensorThings API and the Rapporteurs of the ITU-T’s Study Group 11/Q12 on the Internet of Things test specifications. The result of both standard works is to provide a uniform way to expose the full potential of the Internet of Things.

Steve received his Ph.D. degree in Geographical Information Systems from Canada (York University, 2007). During his Ph.D. study, he also contributed to the development of one of the first virtual globe systems in the world, called GlobeView. GlobeView was later commercialized by GeoTango Corp., and subsequently acquired by Microsoft in 2005.

Ted Duffield
CRO, Trakopolis IoT Corp

Ted Duffield brings over 4 years of Executive IoT experience in the North American marketplace. He is a results oriented business executive that is directly responsible for overseeing sales, accounts, corporate business development, marketing and revenue management for Trakopolis IoT Corp.

Ian MacGregor
Chairman and CEO, NW Refining Inc.

Ian MacGregor is the Chairman and CEO of NW Refining Inc., a 50% partner in the North West Redwater Partnership which is constructing a $25 billion dollar bitumen refining complex in Alberta’s Industrial Heartland. The project will be the world’s first to incorporate CO2 capture and storage as an integral part of the design. This approach will allow the company to produce ultra low sulphur diesel with one of the lowest carbon footprints of any petroleum-based fuel.

Ian is also Chairman of Enhance Energy Inc., which is building the world’s largest carbon capture and storage system. It’s called the Alberta Carbon Trunk Line and the system will capture, transport and utilize CO₂ as a feedstock for enhanced oil recovery. More than 14 million tonnes of CO2 will be injected into old oil reservoirs annually.

He graduated from the University of Calgary in Mechanical Engineering.

 

Dave Lafferty
President, Scientific Technical Services

With over 35 years of experience in the oil and gas industry, David provides business development and technology insights for the oil and gas segment – with special emphasize in the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT). David has presented and published on a number of O&G related IIoT topics. Prior to starting Scientific Technical Services, David was at the BP Chief Technology Office (CTO) where he spearheaded a wide range of innovative projects including: Developing the “Digital Umbrella” concept, wireless measurements systems, predictive analytics, and mobility projects. David has a BS in Computer Science from the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse.

Gregory Tink
President, The Streamline Group

With over 20 years if technology management consulting experience, Greg is an accomplished professional with diverse experience delivering business solutions in the Oil and Gas industry. Greg has demonstrated strong management and leadership skills since his career began in IS in 1993. Prior to that, Greg worked in the field as an operator for a variety of companies. He then spent over 10 years with major energy company leading projects and groups dealing with Marketing and Upstream/Production Management. Greg’s experience includes corporate data and information management, strategy and planning, cyber security, system integration and enterprise architecture. Greg has a proven track record delivering innovative processes, technical solutions, and facilitating relationships with a high level of ethics and a strong attention to detail. He has managed projects and worked in all aspects of the oil and gas industry, from upstream to marketing, specializing in the development of key business processes and organizational change.

Stuart has 25 years in I.T., with eight years in the mid-stream business architecting technology solutions to help Gibson Energy achieve their goals by finding efficiencies through the use of Cloud and IoT technologies.

Kenneth Smith
General Manager, Oil & Gas, Hortonworks

As the General Manager, Oil & Gas, Kenneth is responsible for establishing and leading the execution of a winning go-to-market strategy for the oil & gas vertical, geared to maximize revenue, pipeline growth and market share for Hortonworks in the industry.  Responsibilities include proactively working with customers, Hortonworks sales & solution management, partners, VARs, and prospects to identify new solutions and industry specific product requirements for the oil & gas market.  He also ensures appropriate solution expertise support is provided and leveraged during the sales and solution implementation cycle, develops successful thought-leadership and solution strategies to achieve maximum profitability in the segment, while maximizing revenue growth of all company products and services.

Kenneth has over 15 years of proven success as a sales executive across multiple industries, the last five spent in the oil & gas sector, through the delivery of high-value propositioned products and solutions, with a track record of developing reciprocal, rewarding relationships with his customers, partners, and colleagues.

Prior to joining Hortonworks, Kenneth was the Executive Director, Oil & Gas for Bit Stew Systems, and previously was the Software Sales Manager, North America for Weatherford International.

Kenneth holds a BBA in Marketing from Texas A&M University, and lives in Fulshear, Texas with his wife and three boys.

Mike Biddle
Managing Director, Evok Innovations

Dr. Biddle is the Managing Director of Evok Innovations, a new entrepreneur-led CleanTech fund that aims to increase the scale, diversity and quality of early-stage innovations focused on the oil and gas industry, reducing the time it takes to commercialize technologies. It will accomplish this by connecting entrepreneurs with flexible capital, mentors and industry partners.

Before Evok, Dr. Biddle started MBA Polymers – literally from his garage. He grew MBA to the world’s leading multi-national company recovering plastics from end-of-life durable goods, such as computers, electronics, appliances, automobiles and now household waste. MBA has a processing capacity of over 300 million lbs/yr in Europe and China. Some of the largest manufacturers in the world use MBA’s plastics to replace virgin plastics in their new products.

Mike is often called the “Garbage Man” for his groundbreaking work in extracting value from highly complex waste streams around the world, yet he has won numerous international awards such as:

• The prestigious 2012 Gothenburg Award, often called the Nobel prize for Sustainability (prev. winners include Al Gore, Kofi Annan & Gro Harlem Brundtland – former Pres. of Norway).
• 2014 World Technology Network Award for the Environment (Elon Musk, founder of Tesla, won it for Energy the same year)

Mike worked for several large companies, namely General Electric, Cummins Engine Company and Dow Chemical, before striking out on his own in 1992. Mike received a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Louisville and a Ph.D. in Polymer Science and Engineering from Case Western Reserve University, both with high honors. He was also a Sloan Fellow at Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business, graduating with an MS in Management Science and remains the only Stanford Sloan Fellow sponsored by Dow Chemical.

Victor E. Itulua

Victor hold a Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Tennessee State University, Nashville TN USA. Victor also holds MBA Degree with concentration in Finance from DeVry University Keller Graduate School of Management. Victor’s professional experience spans over two (2) decades both in North America and Overseas in the area of Plant Maintenance & Operations, Manufacturing, Engineering, IT/Software Development, R&D, and Management & Leadership in Multinational Organizations including Chevron Corp, Weyerhaeuser Corp, Canadian Natural Resources Ltd (CNRL), and Japan Canada Oilsands (JACOS). Victor current position is the Manager, Maintenance & Reliability Engineering with JACOS.

Donovan Volk

Donovan Volk, Vice-President, Sales & Marketing, joined JuneWarren-Nickle’s Energy Group in January of 2015.  He has over 20 years of experience in strategic planning, sales and marketing, operational management, product development, consulting services, and service delivery through his roles at Xerox, Telus, CGI and VistaVu Solutions. Donovan has a B.Comm in finance and marketing from the University of Saskatchewan and is certified in Solution Selling and Pragmatic Marketing. Viswanath Avasarala

Viswanath Avasarala is the founder and  CEO of Saint Software Consultants. Saint  Software specializes in big data services that enable enterprises to generate value at scale from data and analytics. Vish started his professional career at GE Research, developing machine learning applications for industrial equipment. Later, he co-founded Sqord, a social health focused IOT platform for kids. Sqord has 100,000+ paying customers and multiple national awards. Vish’s experience also includes leadership roles at SAS, where he led unstructured analytics product development and at Schlumberger IT where he started and led big data and advanced analytics programs. Vish Avasarala has a Ph.D in Information Sciences and Technology from Pennsylvania State University, where he conducted research in multiple sensor data fusion and an undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Madras.

Charles Finstad
Western Canada Director, Avanade

Charles Finstad is Director at Avanade and serves as the Canadian Resources Industry Lead as well as Territory Sales Manager for Western Canada. He has been with Avanade since June 2010. Charles has a mixed background across Finance, Accounting and Technology Services but has always worked closely with Energy Industry customers operating in the Alberta market. Dr. Roman Shor
Assistant Professor, Department of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering, Schulich School of Engineering UofC

Roman Shor is an Assistant Professor of Drilling Engineering in the Department of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering of the Schulich School of Engineering at the University of Calgary. He holds a BA in mathematics and a BSE and MSE in computer science from the University of Pennsylvania and an MSE and PhD in petroleum engineering from the University of Texas at Austin. He is presently forming the Drilling Research Group at the University of Calgary which will focus on the areas of drillstring dynamics modeling and control, drilling optimization and drilling systems automation. Specifically, the application of reduced order modeling and modeling for control to enable model predictive control for drilling tasks and drilling optimization through data processing and machine learning. He is also interested in drilling fluids optimization, applications of novel sensing techniques in well abandonment operations and reducing the impact of drilling operations on the environment and surrounding communities.

Dr. Satyam Priyadarshy
Chief Data Scientist, Halliburton

Dr. Satyam Priyadarshy is a pioneer in the fields of data science, big data, analytics, and emerging technologies. He is currently chief data scientist at Halliburton’s Landmark PSL, leading expansion of integrated workflow capabilities and big data and data science initiatives. Dr. Priyadarshy has appeared as speaker at several international conferences, and has written, co-authored, presented and published numerous research papers in peer-reviewed journals and magazines. He has held various leadership positions in AOL, Network Solutions, Acxiom Corporation prior to joining Halliburton. He was recently named to The Financial Times’ list of potential board candidates with emerging technology and analytics expertise. Dr. Priyadarshy is an adjunct faculty at Georgetown University.  He is currently senior fellow at the International Cyber Security Center at George Mason University. He is advisory board member at multiple organizations including Big Data Summit, Virginia Tech’s MBA Board, etc.  Dr. Priyadarshy holds a Ph.D. from Indian Institute of Technology in Bombay, and an MBA from Virginia Tech.
